Help / FAQ

This page is for helpful suggestions and answers to Frequently Asked Questions.

Q: How do I publish a video?

A: First, you'll need to sign up. Then, log in. After that, click on the publish button. Just fill out the form to upload your video or point to a video that you already uploaded to another site.

Q: I can't see a video. What should I do?

A: [fill this out! Check plugins, check net connection (?), report a problem (need form).]

Q: There are a million video sharing sites. Why should I care about FilmForge?

A: Because most of the video sharing sites out there (with a few great exceptions, like archive.org, ourmedia.org, video.indymedia.org, and engagemedia.org) are for-profit companies built on closed (proprietary) software. They generate huge revenues for investors by riding on the back of free/open source software innovations and appropriating the hard creative work done by their users. Plus, they generally take down content quickly when they receive takedown notices. Also, they track IP addresses and will hand over your info to government snoops from various shady agencies.

By contrast, FilmForge is free/libre open source software, built around principles of decentralization, freedom, non-exploitation, and active defense of civil liberties. If you are an organization or webhost, you can use FilmForge without paying any software licensing fees, and you're free to modify the software to fit your needs. If you're a videomaker, you can use FilmForge to host your material and your work won't be exploited by a big company.

Q: Do you know about x module for Drupal? Why don't you include it in FilmForge?

A: We try to keep up to date with module development, review new modules, and update FilmForge accordingly. If you want to help out please get involved! [add link to contact/get involved]

Q: FilmForge is cool. How can I help out the project?

A: Thanks! You can help by donating funds to the project, by getting involved in testing and development, or just by spreading the word.
